California Community Colleges Makes History by Forming Partnership with The Women's Conference 2008

2008_Women's_Conference

“My goal is for millions of people to have access to The Women’s Conference wherever they may be and to be inspired to ‘be who they are’ and to serve as great architects of change in their own communities.  I’m thrilled Chancellor Woodruff is reaching out to students and sharing with them the inspirational and empowering conversations delivered by some of the world’s greatest hearts and minds. I’m even more excited these speeches will generate a dialogue about the challenges facing our nation and world.” First Lady Maria Shriver

On Wednesday, October 22, the Chancellor’s Office made history by joining forces with The Women’s Conference 2008 and 3C Media Solutions for the first time to successfully provide a LIVE broadcast throughout the community college system.  Through this broadcast, students and faculty gained access to the powerful, empowering, and inspiring line-up of speakers emanating from the sold-out Governor and First Lady’s Women’s Conference held in Long Beach, California.

More than 50 colleges participated in promoting this broadcast as a valuable supplement to regular curriculum and to stimulate campus-based conversations and debates.  Additionally, several college presidents took it upon themselves to actively organize learning events that will serve as model educational opportunities that can be replicated by colleges in 2009.  Examples of model programs can be found at Bakersfield College, Butte College, DeAnza College, Fresno City College, Palomar College, Saddleback College and San Diego Mesa College campuses.  For more information, please visit Highlights, Blogs and Lessons Learned.
